A Chiropodist is a regulated health professional who focuses on preventing, assessing, and treating conditions of the foot and ankle by medical, surgical, or palliative means. A Chiropodist, also known as a foot specialist, provides a variety of medical services ranging from nail/skin care and orthotics, to in-office surgeries. Chiropodists are members of the College of Chiropodists of Ontario, a regulating body dedicated to supporting Chiropodists and Podiatrists in their delivery of high quality and ethical care.
In Ontario, Chiropodists do not bill under OHIP, however, most third party insurance providers or extended health care plans cover Chiropody/Podiatry services. Every health care plan is different, so we advise you to contact your insurance provider, or extended health care provider for more information regarding your coverage.
A Custom Made Foot Orthotic (CFO) is a device that is inserted into the shoe, to address various foot and lower limb conditions. Foot orthotics can be used to align, support, and/or accommodate foot abnormalities to improve foot function. Custom Made Foot Orthotics (CFOs) are always designed using a plaster cast or 3D scan of the patient's feet and prescribed by a Chiropodist/podiatrist. The materials and manufacturing process varies based on specific patient needs, footwear, and activities. A CFO, in conjunction with other treatment, can be effective in addressing a number of conditions including: heel pain, knee pain, lower back pain, arch pain and forefoot pain.
